planting arborvitae
From: Melissa Kelly
City: Champaign, IL
We just received 15 spring grove arborvitae in the mail and are ready to plant in our back yard which will serve as a screen. Since the weather has turned cooler, should we water them daily/weekly/more or less? Also, what type of fertilizer should we use with them. They are about 6-8" tall in 4" pots. They will receive morning and midday sun then shade after about 1-2pm.
Thanks!

Hi,
After planting them water very well to get a good ground soak and get the soil worked in and around the roots. After that water as needed by feeling the soil. If the soil is moist don't water if it is starting to get dry water. There is no set time limit or days to wait it is all dependant on when the soil actually needs water . Using a mulch around the plants will help reduce frequency also.
