North Carolina Fraser Fir Christmas Tree is the single focus and the only product that Cool Springs Nursery grows and sells to primarily high-end garden centers, retail lots and fundraising organizations; in fact, we should be called Cool Springs Fraser Fir Nursery. We grow very high-end, almost perfect Fraser Fir Christmas trees in the High Country mountains of Western North Carolina. This is important because these North Carolina mountains are the only native habitat of Fraser Fir Christmas trees. In other words, Fraser Firs grow naturally here and North Carolina is the seed source for all other producers of Fraser Fir in the world. The seed comes from three major mountain peaks which are almost 6,000 feet high. Roan Mountain and Mount Rogers are the two major ones. So when Canada, Michigan, Oregon and Washington State get seed from these peaks and try to grow Fraser Fir, they are taking it to an area that does not have the type of optimization (weather and soil) that North Carolina has. We feel blessed to be growing Fraser Fir where it was meant to be grown and has the best chance of making the perfect Christmas trees, which of course is our goal. The perfect Fraser Fir Christmas tree is what we dream of and work toward every time we plant a Fraser Fir tree.

We do whatever it takes to grow the best Fraser Fir Christmas Trees possible: in terms of nutrition, the soil has to be perfect; shearing, our workers in many cases are artists who are employing the techniques of a bonsai master; weed control, we use IPM and low rate Round Up to maintain a clover beautiful ground cover, all of this in order to grow the perfect Fraser Fir Christmas tree. This is the beginning.

Delivering the Fraser Fir Christmas tree, wreaths and roping to the retailer and ultimately to the customers means selecting each year the very best Fraser Fir Christmas trees from our inventory of 300,000 trees. One of the beauties of growing Fraser Fir is that we do not have to cut it until it is perfect; the tree keeps growing and we can keep working on it. For this reason we do not clear cut our fields but selectively cut over a seven year period, once a field of trees reaches six feet. And, of course, our harvesting techniques and practices are state of the art, with the ultimate goal of delivering not only a beautiful tree, but also a fresh tree to the customer.
