Home sweet Home Show

The 28th annual Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show opens Friday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown, with famous artworks translated into decor, a Mission-style Dream Home and a jazzy dining area inspired by a legendary Hill District club.

Members of the American Society of Interior Designers are creating seven-room vignettes whose design is inspired by such works as Monet's water lilies and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel.

The Dream Home will have the facade of Heartland Homes' newest model, The Craftsman, with a stone foundation, tapered pillars and Prairie-style windows.

The jazz room, inspired by the Crawford Grill, will be filled daily with music by students from the High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, surrounded by chalk artwork created by fellow CAPA students.

Other highlights include the Garden Pavilion, Duquesne Light's interactive Energy Stage, the QED Cooking Center and the Children's Village.

It runs through March 8. Hours are10 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays; and 4-10 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays. Tickets are $10; $4 for children ages 6-12 and free for children under 6. Information: 412-922-4900 or www.pghhome.com.
