Verticillium Wilt Causes Dieback of Maple Trees
A common disease that affects Japanese Maples and other Maples in Sonoma County is Verticillium Wilt. Verticillium Wilt is a soil borne pathogen that affects the vascular system of the plant. Symptoms include yellowing or loss of foliage. This may be followed by branches which die from the tips. In some cases a single branch will be afffected and may die back to a lower large branch. The problem may spread to other branches on the tree over time.
