Tree shaping
WIKIPEDIA

Tree shaping, also called arborsculpture, pleaching, tree training or several alternative names, is the art of training living trees, plants and their roots into ornamental shapes and structures. It is a form of living sculpture, sharing a common heritage with other artistic horticultural and agricultural practices like bonsai, espalier, and topiary, and employing some similar techniques. A unique and distinguishing feature evident in many (but not all) examples of this craft is purposeful inosculation (grafting) of the living trunks, branches, and roots of perennial woody plants to form designed artistic or functional structures.
