“Growing a Piece of Ohio’s Historyâ€
The Tree
The Ohio buckeye tree (Aesculus glabra) holds an important distinction in Ohio and American history. The Ohio buckeye tree became widely accepted as the state tree of Ohio during the late 1800s, although not officially designated by Ohio Legislature until 1953. The Ohio buckeye tree is a small tree with a short trunk and narrow crown that typically blooms in late April or early May.
The sheer natural beauty of the Ohio buckeye tree makes a perfect "living" gift and provides perfect shade for the entire family to enjoy. Ohio buckeyes are not difficult to grow and make very unique landscaping plants. The Ohio buckeye can be purchased as a seedling, potted plant (4-12"), or outdoor tree (12+") through The Ohio Buckeye Tree Service. All potted and outdoor Ohio buckeye trees are available in late Fall and early Spring and are shipped bare root through priority mail.
