Green leaves with random splashes of yellow all summer. Single blue florets mid to late May. Most lilacs are fast growing with stiff upright branches and will spread by underground stems. Mature size and spread depend upon soil, climate and maintenance, but most become large shrubs with age. Lilacs tolerate both acid and higher pH soils. They are well utilized as hedges and in groups, planted where their flowers and fragrance can be enjoyed in mid to late spring. Adaptable to seashore conditions. We have not seen damage by deer on any of our lilacs grown in our Hopkinton fields.
