Scotch Pine Trees are the nation trees of Scotland. A native in European and Asian soil, Scotch Pine Trees where once thought to be extinct. Their combination of rather short, bluish-green leaves, which turn yellow green or dark green during the winter and a reddish-orange bark easily identify them. They can grow to about 35 meters high. One of the biggest killers of these trees are pine wood nematode which causes pine wilt disease. The Scotch Pine Tree is also called the European Redwood and they were introduced to American soil in the 1600’s. Scotch Pine Trees became very popular as Christmas trees in the United States during the 50’s until the 80’s, they are still a common choice to this day.
