Grows 40 to 60 feet in height; spread less than or equal to height, but occasionally much taller. National co-champion red maple trees are a 179' x 120' tree in St. Clair county MI and a 135' x 88' red maple tree in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN. Red maples are an excellent choice for lawn, park or for street plantings, but to get one that displays a long lasting pretty color you must get s selected cultivar. The seedling red maples usually will not give as dependable a fall color in zones 6 and 7 as the improved cultivars.
