This pine can yield more timber on unfavorable sites than other pines. Can thrive on dry and wet sites. Seedlings grow rather slowly and are susceptible to drought for the first 2-years, but growth is faster as the tree ages. Valuable wildlife tree for many species; whitetail deer commonly browse pitch pine needles. Wood used for rough construction, pulp, crating and fuel. Has been used in the past for ties, timbers, and even shipbuilding because it contains a lot of resin, which resists decay.
