Oakleaf Hydrangea, Hydrangea quercifolia, grows as an understory shrub offering beautiful large leathery oak leaf shaped leaves that, in fall, turn purple to bronze to red. This beautiful flowering shrub offers exfoliating cinnamon colored bark. An interesting hydrangea bush that provides winter interest for any landscape.

Oakleaf Hydrangeas and Pee Gee Hydrangeas are the only hydrangea flowering shrub varieties that produce cone shaped flower clusters. In summer, gorgeous white cone shaped flowers turn pinkish shades over fall finally fading to brown.

Plant in well drained soil that is slightly acidic and high in organic matter. Prune the Oakleaf hydrangea in summer before August. This hydrangea blooms on old wood. Fertilize with a slow release balanced blend up to two times before August.

A North American plant native to the Southeastern United States.
