Montpelier, located in Orange County, Va, was home to one of American’s founding fathers, James Madison. He spent his childhood on the estate and was later buried on its grounds, and in the years in between he frequently returned to and lived at the estate. He brought his wife, Dolley Todd and her son to live there alongside his mother and father. Madison played a vital role in the formation of America with a life of service well beyond his eight years as president – he is best known as the father of the constitution, but also was instrumental in the Louisiana Purchase, served in the Continental Congress, and as Thomas Jefferson’s secretary of State. He retired to Montpelier where he continued to work for the formation of a stronger nation. The Kentucky Coffee tree stands on the sprawling Virginia estate.
