Our Three Fold Mission
Collect, synthesize, and report on solid waste programs and data
Assist municipalities in their efforts to improve recycling and composting performance
Ensure sufficient, environmentally secure, disposal capacity for Maine's municipal solid waste
The Maine Legislature's goal for 2009: Recycle 50% of the state's municipal solid waste.
A statewide recycling rate of 36.4% was achieved in 2005, over 700,000 tons of recyclables did not end up in a landfill!
This recycling effort was achieved thanks to the combined efforts of Maine residents, municipalities and businesses.
Maine continues to rank highly among other states in overall recycling efforts.
