Lavatera 'Red Rum' is a truly outstanding NEW introduction and set apart from all other varieties of Lavatera because of its compact nature, dark stems and its darker flowers verging toward magenta. The close clustering of the flowers of 'Red Rum' make it ideal for containers or a mid-level height plant in a perennial/shrub border. Dark burgundy stems hold closely packed red-magenta flowers which bloom from early summer until mid-autumn with the flower colour deepening as the plant matures. Lavatera 'Red Rum' blooms, start off with mid pink shades and as the shrub matures turn into a deep rosy-magenta and the flower clusters are densely formed on the stems and these blooms last for a long period which is a real bonus for this compact introduction of an old favourite! Named after the legendary race horse - Grand National Steeplechase three times winner Red Rum.
