How to Plant Emerald Carousel Barberry
By Barbara Raskauskas, eHow Contributor

Emerald Carousel is a trademarked name for a barberry (Berberis x "Tara") shrub that starts spring with small yellow blooms. The leaves of Emerald Carousel turn from green to red for striking fall color. Valued for its drought tolerance and dense nature, Emerald Carousel reaches about 5 feet tall and boasts a spread of about 6 feet. Expect the shrub to grow 12 to 18 inches a year until full height is reached. This barberry shrub is cold hardy as far north as USDA planting zone 3b. Though fall is the preferred time to plant shrubs, plant Emerald Carousel anytime of the year as long as the ground is not frozen.
