More heat tolerant than sugar maple; not as colorful fall color as sugar maple; shallow fibrous root system; seeds eaten by birds. The Florida maple’s native habitat is rich bottomland forests.

It is similar to the northern Sugar Maple but the leaves are smaller and more compact and are white-hairy underneath.
