Curly Willow... A product with many uses.
A stately ornamental shrub or tree, Curly Willow comes in several varieties, each with their own unique qualities.
The 3 most commonly used varieties are Red, Gold and Green.
Red:RedCW2mini This is a strangely contorted variety,
with a fire-red colored bark in winter.
Due to it's unusual growth habit, larger branches of this variety are seldom used commercially as freight costs are prohibitive.
The most common use for red curly willow is for it's smaller branches, or "tips" for floral arrangements, which are basically straight stems with some curl.
Gold:GoldCW1mini Know for it's curious zig-zag growing
pattern and uniform light brown bark color, this variety is used for many dried and fresh floral arrangements.
Curl patterns in the tips are somewhat more pronounced than those of the red curly willow, and larger stem sizes of up to 6 feet can be shipped to retailers
Green:CW3mini This is the "workhorse" of the floral and craft industry.
The strong upright branching and pronounced corkscrew habit makes this variety ideal for shipping and easy to work with.
A consistently larger growth pattern allows this variety to be used for everything from arrangements to wreaths.
The enduring classic beauty of Green Curly Willow shines even if only a few tall stems are standing all by themselves in a large corner vase or urn.
Green Curly Willow doesn't come in just plain 'Ol green!
Unlike other varieties, the color of "green" curly willow varies on each tree. From bright green to gold in one tree, to reddish tan in the next. Winter intensifies the colors, and when dried can include several different shades of pistachio, copper or chocolate in summer.
1 year old branches are typically a single color, but a single branch can have up to 4 color shades depending on the season.
One of the most intriguing characteristics of Green Curly Willow is the interesting "squiggle" patterns that begin to show on the bark in as little as 2 years and become more pronounced over time.
If desired, the dried branches can be painted to match any decor.
We even give our "Furniture Grade" willow a high gloss clear-coat to enhance and protect the varied natural colors and patterns.
