The Zuni Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Zuni') is a mid sized crape myrtle offered by the National Arboretum. It grows from 6 to 10 feet tall and spread with a rounded top. The rich lavender colored flowers are displayed from mid-July through the month of September. This variety is mildew resistant, and hardy in a variety of climates. The leaves will change to a dramatic orange to red color in the fall, giving extended beauty into the autumn months. The Zuni Crape Myrtle is ideally suited for formal or informal design in the home landscape, street plantings and community plantings. It can be planted as a specimen or in groups, and looks attractive when underplanted with a ground cover. Crape Myrtle are easy to grow and if they are used for hedges, plant them 3 to 4 feet apart.
