Cornus amomum is a fast growing deciduous shrub that, at a mature height of 12', can reach the stature and form of a small, well-rounded tree. The leaves of dark green, oblong, and do not provide particular fall interest. It produces clusters of attractive creamy-white flowers, that are followed by equally showy, blue berry-like drupes. The stems of young specimens turn bright red in winter, providing good visual interest in otherwise barren landscapes.
