Colorado Blue Spruce Grown in our North Carolina Tree and Plant Nursery
What can be more spectacular in the yard than a Colorado Blue Spruce tree? What makes the Blue Spruce tree different from other spruce or pine trees, is the unique blue color. Colorado Blue Spruce trees can vary in color from blue to grayish-blue, to green, and there are several poplular varieties of blue spruce trees that are planted nationwide. These color variations are genetically controlled, bred especially for the shade of blue color. The tree we grow is from true Colorado Blue Spruce seeds, the standard species. As they grow larger, they will turn a bluer color.

The blue spruce like a fair amount of water, and will tolerate a wide range of soil and climate conditions. They can be planted from Zone 2 to 8 (maybe into 9 in partial shade). Add a boost of fertilizer once in a while, make sure the spruce tree gets water during the dry season, and the blue spruce will grow very nicely.

Because of the unique shading of this tree, plant the blue spruces' in an area that will draw attention - such as the center of a garden bed or gardening area, along a fenceline, or the entrance of a driveway.
