Sycamore or Acer pseudoplatanus is a hugely under-rated tree. It tolerates exposed situations (including seaside ones), will grow in almost any soil and stands up to atmospheric pollution about as well as the London Plane. Both are survivors of the Industrial Revolution.Fully grown it is a magnificent specimen, rivalling any of our other large native trees although it is faster growing and much longer suffering than most.
