Aesthetics might be our reason for planting a flowering tree in our landscape, but there are several other benefits besides just being pretty that flowering trees provide.

A spring flowering tree will lift your mood and renew hope after a long, dismal winter. Those first spring blooms on fruit trees, Tulip trees, Dogwood trees and other spring flowering trees remind us that spring is just around the corner and new life is
beginning.

By planting any flowering tree, you break up the utilitarian look of the suburban landscape. The paved roads, sidewalks and driveways are cold, hard functional necessities, a flowering tree in the middle of all that gives warmth, color and the feeling of home to the urban landscape.

A flowering tree will also provide shade in your landscape and a wind block that will help reduce your home's energy costs. A flowering tree also attracts wildlife and provides food for the birds.

Flowering trees not only benefit you, beautify your landscape, save you money on energy costs, make a house look more like a home and benefit the environment, just one single flowering tree in your landscape will add value to your property.

If you are trying to sell your home, a flowering tree in full bloom will help your property sell faster and sell for a higher amount. An initial investment of a few dollars for a flowering tree can add hundreds of dollars to the selling price of your home should you ever decide to sell. That's something to bear in mind when choosing and planting flowering trees in your landscape. If the size of your landscape permits, plant flowering trees so one will be in bloom from spring through fall, just in case you decide to sell.

Adding flowering trees to your landscape does not have to take up a large portion of your yard, some are small and most can be kept pruned to the desired height and width.
