Beach evening primrose, Camissonia cheiranthifolia
Growing in coastal strand vegetation from northern Baja California to southwestern Oregon is the perennial beach evening primrose, Camissonia cheiranthifolia (Family Onagraceae). On sand dunes and beaches, this tap-rooted plant of full sun first forms a rosette, from which are produced its mostly prostrate shoots with longer internodes, which grow in many directions. Flowers are yellow, with four petals. The leaves and stems generally are silvery, due to the presence of hairs, but sometimes the leaves are nearly glabrous.
