Common Baldcypress looks like an evergreen, but is actually deciduous so drops its leaves in the fall. The growth habit is narrow while young but becomes broader as the plant ages. Common Bald Cypress is intolerant of shade when young and can be used near water.

Twig blight caused by Pestalotia funerea is a weak pathogen and is usually present on dead or dying tissue. When the tree is stressed the fungus can kill branch tips. Control is usually not needed.
