The Apricot Golden Sweet, Prunus 'Golden Sweet', produces a small, very sweet, gold apricot. The Golden Sweet is full of sugar so the sweetness is outstanding. Apricots need well drained soil and they do tolerate wet, water logged soils. Apricots do not need as much heat as peaches to ripen. Golden Sweet is self-fertile but if planted with another variety they are likely to produce more fruit. Apricot trees, once established, are somewhat drought-tolerant. The trees are gorgeous in spring with white or pink blossoms, and ornamental in summer with their furrowed bark and heart-shaped, glossy leaves, red when new and dark green when mature. Apricots contain carotenoids which are antioxidants that help prevent heart disease, reduce "bad cholesterol" levels, and protect against cancer.
