Root Maggots
Root maggots are abundantly seen in North America. They feed on succulent roots underground and attack several varieties of crops including radish, cabbage, turnip and onions. The plants that become affected appear stunted in growth, turn yellow, and wilt quickly during midday. Maggots can chew through taproots and kill the plant completely.

Description:

The adult root maggots measure about 1/5th inch and resemble the housefly, but are dark gray and smaller. They search out newly planted seed beds and lay their eggs at the plant’s base. The maggots are 1/3 to ¼ inch long and yellowish white in color. They have no legs and are tapered at the head and blunt at the tail end.
