This shrub is a reddish-purple leaved strain of the original version of Ninebark that is known to hold good foliage color, even throughout the summer heat. Bark on older stems begins to peel in papery strips, revealing a rich brown inner bark. Can be trimmed / pruned to just about any shape or size to meet the needs of just about any landscape area. Has nice, pure white little flowers that bloom from May thru the end of June. These small flowers are a great standout against the rich burgundy foliage. Most commonly used as a group planting of 3-5 plants to fill in areas where conditions are less than favorable, or where a color contrast is needed to break up too much green color. Adapts very well to adverse, difficult situations - withstands acidic or alkaline soils, dry conditions, and will take either full sun or partial shade. In our opinion, looks best when maintained at a height no greater than 5-6 ft high, and trimmed regularly.
