Kentucky Coffee Trees do not actually produce coffee beans. Instead, they produce tamarind-shaped fruits which are roasted as a replacement for coffee whenever supplies are not around. These trees are actually commonly used as ornamental plants in gardens, parks and lawns. Kentucky Coffee Trees are native to the United States, specifically on the southeastern areas. They have flowers that come out during the springtime but these are little and do not have much color on them. Their leaves change from a deep dark green to a bright yellow during the fall. These trees prefer to be planted in rich, loamy, well-drained soil and get a lot of exposure from the sun. These trees can grow very big so they are perfect as windbreakers.
