Hybrid Poplar Trees
Pictures, growing information, and more.

Hybrid poplar trees are among the fastest growing trees on the planet. Some hybrid poplar trees have growth rates of over 8 feet per year. Of course these rates vary depending upon growing conditions such as soil makeup, amount of water, size of cuttings, and of course weather conditions.

Most hybrid poplar trees are grown from cuttings, as is the case with many other plants nowadays. The larger the cuttings, the faster the growth rate as there is more stored energy in the plant for new growth. These fast growing trees are also sold as rooted plants that are being passed off as seedlings, so just be aware of this fact. Once the hybrid poplar establishes it's rootball you will be amazed at how fast this tree can grow.

Hybrid poplars have numerous uses, but primarily they are used as fast growing shade trees, windbreaks, pulp wood, reforestation projects and building material. Due to the nature of the fast growth rate they also absorb much more CO2 from the atmosphere when compared to other slower growing trees like oaks, so if you're looking to help save the Earth then planting a few hybrid poplars will definitely help!

Now there are some people that despise hybrid poplars. Most often they were the recipient of the Lombardy Poplar or a female strain that produces huge seed pods when mature. Also, some hybrid poplars were bred strictly for fast growing pulp wood and thus have a short lifespan, which most homeowners do not like. Here at Gator Ventures, we only deal in the male strains of the hybrid poplar such as the Imperial Carolina (DN-34).
