What are scale insects?

Scale insects are tiny bugs that infest fruit plants, some flowering shrubs, ferns, conifers, and even indoor houseplants. Scale insects may have soft or armored shells.

The Citrus Red Scale, a hard-shelled variety, is the most infamous scale insect of all, as it can wreak havoc on fruit crops.
