Elements of Soil Mechanics

Soil mechanics is a branch of civil engineering. It involves both the study of the physical properties of soils and the applications of those soils as materials for engineering projects. It is used in planning the foundations of highways, buildings and other structures. Foundations transfer the weights of the structures above into the ground. If they are not matched properly to the soil they sit in, the structures they support can break apart
