Camellias
In a moment of extreme confidence I agreed that my Camellias could have their own special section. Eeek! I'm feeling decidedly sheepish having to talk about these beautiful shrubs. Please forgive my embarrassing lack of Camellia knowledge - I promise I'll be keeping all labels from now on.
Payment for teaching Beethoven!
White Camellia

There were two of these shrubs in the garden when I first arrived - one bright pink, the other baby pink. Their names were not known to me, but their health obviously excellent.

All the other Camellias arrived at Mooseys by default. And oddly they all have musical connections.

A large creamy white Camellia is one of the first signs of spring in my garden. It grows in a sheltered spot on the side of the Sleep-Out, and was given to me as payment for some piano lessons. I always wonder how my old friend's Beethoven is getting on when this Camellia starts flowering. I'm sorry but I've never known its name.

Several other Camellias which live near Rooster Bridge were also payment in lieu of music lessons given. These were relocated from a nearby country garden, and certainly took their time recovering. I pruned them quite hard, and didn't see them flowering for the first spring season. They ended up being a colourful mixture of cream, red and pink, and remind me of my Mozart student.

Their garden is surrounded by Wattle trees - known to be gross feeders - and gets a bit dry in summer. One day when I'm having a serious Camellia phase in the garden I might transplant them to a better spot.

This pure white Camellia is another rescued shrub, and flowers in the middle of spring. The flowers brown easily if there's any rain, or if I try some sneaky watering.

This spring (in the year 2004) the Camellias by my glass-house are having their best flowering season ever! Here is a beautiful fluffy pink shrub, another which has been rescued, revitalised, and rehabilitated in the Moosey Country Garden.

Five years ago I offered garden shelter to some seriously distressed Camellias from a neighbouring farm garden. Finally in the spring of 2004 I can enjoy this beautiful shrub with its rose pink flowers in bloom.

As promised I am taking much more notice (and many more photographs) of my Camellias, now that I am semi-retired. This is a large bush which grows in dappled shade near the glass-house.

This camellia is a Moosey original, planted at the shady side of the house like all good camellias should be. It starts flowering in July and the display lasts for weeks.

This bright warm pink camellia (name unknown) can be seen from the house in mid-spring. It is planted alongside the car lay-by.

This is the most beautiful white camellia I have ever had the pleasure to meet. It's one of my spring sign-posts - I look forward so much to discovering it starting to flower.
